Getting to know your Tattoo artist

Hello! My name is Susan Shurun Shao and I am currently a resident artist at Sasha Tattooing Essential. Please feel free to explore my website portfolio. If you don’t see exactly what you’re looking for, I’m happy to discuss your ideas over email or consultation!

My name in Chinese is Shao Shurun, hence my social media names. My email and website domain have been adopted from a previous life as a product designer. You can call me Susan (she/her/they/them).

As your tattoo artist, I am passionate about approaching a tattoo experience with open communication, a safe environment, and a collaborative experience. If that’s something you’re interested in, we could be a great match as artist and client. I’ll also admit I am human and have my flaws and imperfections, but I work best with those who are open to over-communicating and also want to match energy in time and effort that is put into these bodies of work.

I’m steadfast in my values just as much as designing a beautiful piece of art that is meant to be adorned by your body. Whether it’s commemorating a time in your life, promoting body positivity, or embracing the spontaneity of collecting art, I appreciate folx from all types of backgrounds and stories that my clients will come to me with. I want to ensure that you leave our session with a tattoo that you resonate with on top of having a pleasant time. :)

I’m a huge fan of exploring new subjects and themes, I believe in challenging myself and being slightly uncomfortable in the artistic space in order to grow with my clients. Though relatively new in my tattoo career, I take pride in incorporating my previous work experience as a designer to my tattooing process. I research, problem solve, and embody empathy during all parts of our project as much as I can.
